<p>Hoewel Debian gratis verkrijgbaar is en dat altijd zal blijven,
hebben de gebeurtenissen zoals het probleem met het eigendom van de term
<q>Linux</q> aangetoond dat Debian haar eigendom moet beschermen tegen
enig gebruik dat Debian schade zou kunnen berokkenen.</p>
<p>Debian heeft besloten om twee logo's te maken: <a
href="#official-use">een logo</a> is voor officieel gebruik door Debian;
het <a href="#open-use">andere logo</a> valt onder een open-gebruik
licentie.</p>

<h2>Over het Debian logo</h2>
<p>Het Debian logo is uitgekozen bij een stemming onder de Debian-ontwikkelaars
in 1999. Het is gemaakt door <a href="mailto:rsilva@debian.org">Raul Silva</a>.
