<p><strong>【2002 GNU/Linux 時間表】</strong> 一年將結束之際，正是我們停下
腳步回顧這一年的時候。<a href="http://lwn.net/">Linux 週報</a>（Linux Weekly
News）列出了一份 <a href="http://lwn.net/Articles/16858/">2002 GNU/Linux
時間表</a>（timeline）。雖然全世界都受到經濟不景氣的影響，自由[CN:軟件:][HKTW:軟體:]依然持續
地發展茁壯。和以往一樣，這份時間表以月份為單位列出今年的重要事件。</p>

<p><strong>【新的 Woody 開[CN:机:][HKTW:機:][CN:軟盤:][HKTW:磁片:]】</strong> Eduard Bloch <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-boot-0212/msg00798.html">自願</a><a
href="http://people.debian.org/~blade/bf3024/">協調</a>[CN:制:][HKTW:製:]作下一個版本
Debian 的開[CN:机:][HKTW:機:][CN:軟盤:][HKTW:磁片:]相關事宜。Debian 3.0 的下一個更新版預計在 r1 發行兩個月
[CN:后:][HKTW:後:]推出，也就是說，至少還有一個半月的時間。新的開[CN:机:][HKTW:機:][CN:軟盤:][HKTW:磁片:]會修正部份平台上已
知的嚴重問題，並且會使用較新的 Linux 核心。</p>

<p><strong>【尋求贊助】</strong> 今年年底，數個支持自由[CN:軟件:][HKTW:軟體:]的非營利組織在尋求
贊助。對美國的居民來說，這[CN:种:][HKTW:種:]捐獻贊助是可以扣稅的。<a
href="http://www.gnu.org/">自由[CN:軟件:][HKTW:軟體:]基金會</a>（FSF）有超過三分之二的資金來自
個人的損獻。FSF 最近發起了<a href="http://member.fsf.org/">附屬會員計畫</a>
（associate membership program）。GNOME 基金會希望能提供部份的開發者<a
href="http://mail.gnome.org/archives/foundation-announce/2002-December/msg00004.html">
交通費補助</a>，讓他們可以參加一年一度的 GUADEC。而 <a
href="http://www.spi-inc.org/">Software in the Public Interest</a>（SPI）則是
接受各界對 Debian 計畫的<a href="http://www.spi-inc.org/donations">贊助</a>。</p>

<p><strong>【檢驗[CN:用戶:][HKTW:使用者:]是否存在】</strong> Matt Hope <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-0212/msg01393.html">注意到</a>有些
套件經由[CN:檢測:][HKTW:檢查:] <code>/etc/passwd</code> 來測試[CN:用戶:][HKTW:使用者:]是否存在。他認為在一些使用如
NIS 或 LDAP 等[CN:其他:][HKTW:其它:]的身份驗證[CN:机:][HKTW:機:]制的系統上，這[CN:种:][HKTW:種:]方式會有問題。Matt Zimmerman <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-0212/msg01413.html">建議</a>他對這
一類的套件[CN:注冊:][HKTW:登錄:] bug，並要求這些套件的維護者改用 <code>getent</code>。</p>

<p><strong>【GTK+ 2.2】</strong> Akira Tagoh (&#30000;&#37111;&#26126;)<a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-0212/msg01396.html">回報</a> GTK+
小組發表了 <a href="http://www.gtk.org/">Gimp Toolkit</a> [CN:程序庫:][HKTW:函式庫:]（GTK+）2.2
版。新版的[CN:程序庫:][HKTW:函式庫:]和 2.0 版[CN:兼容:][HKTW:相容:]，不過和 libgnomeui 有[CN:接口:][HKTW:介面:]上的問題。<a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-0212/msg01404.html">因此</a>，GNOME
2 [CN:不可用:][HKTW:無法使用:] GTK 2.2，但是 GNOME 2.1 卻需要這個新的 GTK+。所以 Akira 打算過渡
性地把這些新版的套件放到 unstable 中。</p>

<p><strong>【將有更多的 Alpha 及 Sparc [CN:用戶:][HKTW:使用者:]加入？】</strong> Jaldhar Vyas <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-0212/msg01319.html">告訴</a>我們
Red Hat 官方<a
href="http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2002/12/20/1040174386902.html">停止</a>
了對 Alpha 及 Sparc 平台的[CN:支持:][HKTW:支援:]。而 Debian 不但仍然[CN:支持:][HKTW:支援:]這兩個平台，[CN:用戶:][HKTW:使用者:]對
Debian 提供的自由[CN:軟件:][HKTW:軟體:]、[CN:軟件:][HKTW:軟體:]修正、和及時的安全性更新也相當地滿意。</p>

<p><strong>【KDE 3.0.5a 的 woody 套件包】</strong> Ralf Nolden <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-kde-0212/msg00268.html">說</a>他
已經把 KDE 3.0.5a 的套件包上傳至 KDE 主[CN:服務器:][HKTW:伺服器:]中。這次上傳的套件中[CN:包含:][HKTW:包括:]
了最新的 KDE 安全性更新。您可以利用 <code>apt-get</code> 從 <a

<p><strong>【把 Debian GNU/Linux 放到一張 32&nbsp;MB CompactFlash 中】</strong>
Bao C. Ha <a href="http://www.linuxdevices.com/articles/AT4540125636.html">
解說</a>他把 Debian 縮減到小[CN:于:][HKTW:於:] 32&nbsp;MB 的方法。Bao 一開始利用
<code>debootstrap</code> [CN:制:][HKTW:製:]作了一個包含[CN:仿真:][HKTW:虛擬:]私有[CN:網絡:][HKTW:網路:]（VPN）、防火牆、路由器
（router）等功能共 121&nbsp;MB 的 Debian 系統。在移除裡面的[CN:文檔:][HKTW:文件:][CN:文件:][HKTW:檔案:]，並使用
cloop 核心[CN:模塊:][HKTW:模組:]（kernel module）壓縮之[CN:后:][HKTW:後:]，他成功地將系統縮減為 27.6&nbsp;MB。
他所[CN:制:][HKTW:製:]作出來的<a href="http://people.debian.org/~bao/">映像[CN:文件:][HKTW:檔:]</a>是供 <a
href="http://www.openbrick.org/">OpenBrick-E</a> 使用的。這是一個針對
開放[CN:源碼:][HKTW:原始碼:]／自由[CN:軟件:][HKTW:軟體:]解決方案（solution）開發的小型[CN:硬件:][HKTW:硬體:]平台。然而，這個系統要

<p><strong>【Debian 3.0r1 [CN:光盤:][HKTW:光碟:]映像[CN:文件:][HKTW:檔:]】</strong> Steve McIntyre <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-cd-0212/msg00177.html">說</a>
他[CN:制:][HKTW:製:]作了一來[CN:應用:][HKTW:套用:]來把 Debian 3.0 更新為 3.0r1 的[CN:光盤:][HKTW:光碟:]映像[CN:文件:][HKTW:檔:]。最初這一套映像[CN:文件:][HKTW:檔:]
是兩張滿滿的[CN:光盤:][HKTW:光碟:]，裡頭包含了 Debian [CN:支持:][HKTW:支援:]的 11 個平台所需要[CN:的文件:][HKTW:的[CN:文件:][HKTW:檔:]案:]。不過在[CN:采:][HKTW:採:]納

[CN:后:][HKTW:後:]，Steve 為每一個平台分別[CN:制:][HKTW:製:]作了更新用的[CN:光盤:][HKTW:光碟:]。雖然這[CN:种:][HKTW:種:]方式要佔較多的空間，

<p><strong>【[CN:清空:][HKTW:清理:] /etc】</strong> Joey Hess <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-0212/msg01504.html">查看</a>他的
<code>/etc</code> 目錄，發現其中有許多在套件移除時沒有[CN:确:][HKTW:確:]實[CN:清空:][HKTW:清理:]掉的東西，像
是無用的鏈結[CN:文件:][HKTW:檔:]（symlinks）和目錄等。他有個解決這個問題構想：[CN:制:][HKTW:製:]作一個特別的
Debian 套件，在它的 postrm 中[CN:查找:][HKTW:尋找:]並清除[CN:其他:][HKTW:其它:]套件遺留下來的東西。</p>

<p><strong>【重新編譯所有的 Debian 套件】</strong> Junichi Uekawa (&#19978;&#24029;&#32020;&#19968;) <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-0212/msg01508.html">回報</a>了他
[CN:運行:][HKTW:執行:] <a href="http://packages.debian.org/pbuilder">pbuilder</a> 的結果。為了
重新編譯所有的套件，他從12月9日開始編譯，直到12月24日才完成。除了 529 個套件
編譯失敗之外，他成功地編譯了超過 6000 個套件。Gerhard Tonn 則是在 GCC 3.2
成為 Debian 的標[CN:准:][HKTW:準:]編譯器之前，嘗試使用它<a
href="http://people.debian.org/~gt/gcc-3.2_transition/">重新編譯</a>所有的
C++ 套件。</p>
